“The fireside is important in every African home because that is where the meal is prepared. Some use firewood, others use dry maize cobs to keep the fire burning. The heat at the fireside is hotter than that produced by a modern cooker or jiko used in the city. Africans in the countryside love the fireside during winter or when the long rains keep the countryside wet all day and week”
